On my home riding the train from Pasay City to Quezon City, while the metals screech like the sound of the bent knuckles from an old woman seated beside me, I remembered my mother telling a story of how she used to walk home on foot from Silliman University to Tinago. "I would count my steps until the front door", she said. "I noticed I had lesser step each year. 7267, 6874, until I reached 5577 steps. It stayed unit 5577 on my Third year in high school and I never counted again. I guess I got tired of counting."
she added.

"One morning, while I was doing my usual routine of counting steps, my classmate passed by riding on his father's white pick-up. He saw me walking so he stuck his hand out from the car's window and waved.", she smiled. "I can no longer remember the face of this classmate but his hands are so clear to me. Even the lines of his palms as they change shadows while he waved are as clear as the memory of me counting my steps."

The train stops after the wave of the station guard wearing huge orange cloves . It is Araneta Center Cubao station as I check my watch 9:30 pm, thirty minutes travel time. I guess the train is faster today.

Im a cramer who needs to cram tonight because of all the got to dos,I can’t seem to figure out which one to start first and which one to "mediocrize!!"(this is my term, an adjective for making a thing mediocre. I invented it myself!..hehe

well,its just that I don’t really want this thing to be mediocre.. and I don’t want anything to be mediocrized!!

so now,I am stil awake with a a competition plate to do and not even have is done and a research proposal I sometimes squized with bloggin and friendster.

and all I could think off is sleep and looking forward to alot of to does tomorrow and wishing that I could kinda wake up early tomorrow so that I could wash my clothes an do all the chores that I plan to do (because in a boarding house, you have to do everything by yourself!). but then I guess, I could never wake up early considering my excessive craming and a major OC for blogging!!

Living Alone Thoughts : Movement pieces on Navotas City Community

Watching passengers' movement going in and out of the Jeepney made me realize how similar their movements are people entering the narrow Pathwalks of the slums. Now I am thinking of a dance with improvised movements from this certain movement. Urban movement people commonly do that are quite related. For instance, like I said going inside the Jeepney is similar to going inside a very narrow pathwalk of Bicol Area, Navotas City, Metro Manila. You have to tilt your head somehow to be able to fit on a certain house or door. Sometimes, you have to curl your stomach to fit in a very narrow wooden road.

I am also trying to study movements wherein I can evoke patterns of mobility and portability in an area but done in a very simplified manner such as a duet or four persons doing the movements. The movements are inspired by Masagana Community in Navotas City where there houses are on stilts and that they have to be mobile incase of conflicts between the owner of the land as they do not have land tenure.

Lastly, I am also trying to see impact of participatory choreography wherein the movements and the root of the concept stems from each particular member of the dance. A workshop should be done where in each one will have their part in enumerating their issues in their communities. After warm up sessions, they will be "moving" their issues using different forms of their bodies without the use of facial gestures. The movements should exemplify the idea on which they are trying to evoke. With this kind of choreography, the teacher is not the main thinker and does not own the piece rather, it is the dancer that owns it. After all, it is the dancer's story that she or he is trying to express. The teacher is just a dimension where the dancer takes his or her basics from.

Why we dance

I remember a friend of mine ask me one time "Are you a dance ensemble member?What do you do?" and then i said, "We practice three times a day and dance when we are invited." Then he said, "So do you get paid or do you receive allowance from the school?" and I said "Well, we get 2000 allowance for a semester." Then he said "Why do you dance if that is the case?".

I stopped for a while and pondered. Why do I dance? I don't get anything in return if I do. I mean yes I represent the school but I can't even pay my rent with this dancing and it takes about 75% of my life.

The thing is that everything seems rational if I am IN there in the space where I dance. I see my companions and we just have the same feeling. As if we have one body.

It is like having the same cerebral cortex with each other and the same veins where blood flows so fluidly to the different parts of our spaces.

I just had a hard time explaining to my friend. We dance because we want to and we love to. We are sane people when we do it and we are insane when we step out of the music and walk to the virgin path walks where the lights are so green gasping within the darkness. We find ourselves walking within these green lights again to find the rhythm.

It has been a month since I last posted on my blog.Despite living alone, I manage to get some fun.I went to the famous Taal Volcano few days from now.
I realize that there is a lot of art in being alone. And I can also realize some queer things that might be a good idea for n art piece. Living along just squeezes of your intellectual juices. That is of course if you do not have numerous things to do to squeeze the juice out first before it gets to be artistic.

Yes, being alone is like a haven for art. Since I am starting my contemporary dance training again with one of the major contemporary dancers and choreographer in the nation, I am seeing a bright future ahead. This might be a revolution for myself.

One thing that I think I missed in my days of living alone is the reading a book. I always forget to read one. I will probably manage. I want to get suggestions on what to read but please no American bestsellers!

The not so nice part of being Alone is that you get really lazy on cooking something. So you decide to take out the food from the nearest fastfood which is Mcdonalds in my case.For some, they order delivery online. The thing with living online is that the internet seems to be alive. It is your bestfriend already. Tell me if I wrong when i say that the first thing you look after getting home is still your laptop. (Well, these of course is for those techie ones) For some who have a "LIFE" well, you don't go directly home. You catch up with your friends of even go shop.

One thing good when you are walking alone in a Mall is passing by the REALTY part with all those people giving out the condo brochures. For me, they are actually checkers if I wore an impressive outfit or a cheap looking one because the thing is that they only give out brochures to those who look like they can pay for it. In a person living alone's case, nobody can tell you if you look nice etchetera etchetera. So assign this to the brochure executives instead.

What is so nice about living alone is that you can think of so many things to do and so many great ideas.Like yesterday, when I was watching television while chatting on facebook. I came across and old friend who told me about an investment on insurance which was not new to me. I studied her company well yesterday. This I cannot do when I am with other people at home as I have to communicate with the person I am with. Living alone makes you have time to do all sorts of things with you own time pace.

But did you know that there are several "hotel’s tiny plastic cubicles offered a night’s refuge to salarymen who had missed the last train home" . Living alone is everywhere and the government is trying to make a deal about it. Bayani Fernando even tried to plan about a certain cubicle for us. But of course, it is more comfortable to leave in a condo just like me.

What do you do when it is your fourth day living alone. First, you sleep really late maybe 1 to 2am just to get really sleepy. In my case, I did this because I was a little scared of seeing a supernatural creature behind me. It's funny right but that's what I did. Next is you also wake up really late. In my case, I woke up at 12noon just enough to eat breakfast and lunch at the same time. It is a Sunday an I don't have work so I can wake up really late such as this.

Then I immediately opened my laptop while getting ready to buy food outside my condo. Hmm..it's really hot already but I had to eat something because I just ate duran tarts last night (When you are all alone you seem to get really lazy)

Immersion to the Urban Poor in Manila

I am glad to be a Filipino who was raised in a rural area. I grew up with the rural poor by my side. I thought then that they were very poor and under privileged. However, lately, when I transferred and worked in a Metropolitan Area, I realized that my rural poor neighbors were more privileged. Part of my job is to visit the urban poor community in many parts of Metro Manila. Having a rural background made me think that it was just some typical immersion just like the rural poor which I was so used to. However, when I went there to do a workshop on Water and Sanitation, I completely realized that very opposite poles that the urban poor and rural poor had.

People do not understand the really work that they perform and the time constraints on their vocation. While companies cut back on the amount of workers to save money, added duties are placed on the nurse assistants and it gets not easy for the nurse assistant to complete all their obligations in her working shift

One of the main qualities of the nurse assistant is the fine contact skill which they own and is believed to be crucial for their job . The nurse assistant is to have interaction with a wide variety of staff, family members, patients, nurses and others linked to the medical job. Some of the most important duties of a nurse assistant are to assist in bathing, feeding, grooming and dressing the patients. These jobs are believed to be plain except when taking into consideration the huge load and the time restrictions which is upon them, even these plain duties can be overwhelming.

Taking a bath ordinarily includes a shower bath which relies on on the care that is to be made with the patient. Other proficiencies including grooming by combing the hair, brushing the teeth, applying make up, and cleaning dentures and shaving . All these tasks should be completed for each and every patient.

One of the each day requirements includes paying attention to the vital signs and also inquiring about their well being and development. Besides this there are several jobs done by the nursing assistance which contains taking notes of the temperature, respiration, pulse and even blood pressure. This is considered to be the major record which the other nurses and doctors review to determine the wellness of the patient.

In case of feeding, it can continue nearly twenty to 60 minutes and may mainly rely on the amount of food and additionally the ability of the patient. This task should in addition be recorded on the detailed charts . The nursing assistant also need to manage the requirements of the patients to take vitamins or nutritional supplements as several of them require it and some may not.

There are patients who can can take food by themselves and for them it might be required to escort them to the dining place. It may include grooming and lifting them up from the wheel chair and things like it. To make certain hygiene the nursing assistants should change any dirty dressings or bedding of the patients. Searching for the perfect Wifi Hotspot in Quezon City is like searching for a perfect job; you have to invest money for it. I've tried Coffee bean and I thought it was the best with a cheap coffee. Then when I tried to connect, I couldn't because it turned out that I have to purchase a Swirl card. Great. On the other hand, I tried staying at Trinoma Mall because they said it was a Wifi Zone. But then, it wasn't. I had to go to a very expensive place called lamaison to purchase a 70 peso coke just to be able to have great internet.

So where is the great Wifi Zone? I realized that SM North is the best. The entire Mall is WIFI ready and free and the shops are very cheap. My favorite is Kitchen of Cakes and Coffee which is very cozy and cheap located at the Sky Garden.

Another very nice WIFI ZONE is Gateway – Araneta Area. Places like Krispy Kreme and Gloria Jeans are the best.

Two Piece chiken is so tempting especially when you're on a budget. If you dine in two, all you have to do is buy one two piece chiken and then buy additional rice then your'e all set.

But I have to warn you on KFC's two piece chiken. It's not what you think because whenn I was about to purchase one, I asked the cashier if I could get two thighs instead of a thigh and wings. But they said they couldn't do that.

I wondered why. But it's quite obvious. You see, the wings is smaller. So it would make you want to purchase two two piece chiken instead. What a bad lie to the consumers!

Everyday I watch Wowowee because it's fun to watch and it has a lot of prices. It also tells stories about different kinds of people. But lately, I already have doubts if Wowowee really wants Bigatins to win in that Cash Bukas Portion. The thing is that they tend to delay opening the item if the player says "Bukas" and then opens it if the players say "Cash" only to find out that inside the item is a million pesos. This has been going on for many months now and that is also the reason why the prices have reached a million. I think there is some kind of anomaly with this. Why doesn't ABS-CBN allow the players to win? If they would have like them to win, they would have opened the item earlier when the players are didn't have second thoughts yet.

I should have been an accountant. Since I transferred in Metro Manila, I had been exposed to alot of accountants, my dad, my cousin Jean Mae and my other cousin RD. I realize that I should have been an accountant because of various things. One reason is that business exposure.

My father told me that every business needs an accountant since all businesses entail some sort of accounting, making financial statements and analyzing the growth of the company in terms of finances. This means that you won't have difficulty finding a job if you are in this profession because they need you in the first place. And you also get to have an extra bonus because you would be exposed to different kinds of businesses. This is advantageous if you opt to create your own company in the future.

Another reason why I should have been an accountant is the fact that it is very in demand abroad. My cousin, Jean Mae, said that her classmates in college went to work in Dubai as an accountant and in a year, she went back with money to buy a 3 million car and a mansion in Manila. I guess he must have had a very high pay for that.

I checked at Jobstreet.com and indeed there are a lot of jobs in Dubai and in the Middle East in need of an accountant. Check theses job sites to find out for yourself.

Since my partner, Mark Alvin Metilla, gave me a Bible as a gift for graduation last April, I have been reading it every night. Contrary to what I have always believe for 6 years that Religion and Faith in God is just a state of mind (since I am from the University of the Philippines and the school has had reputations of being religion free), I realized that reading the Bible can very positive to once personality.

Yes, the Bible can indeed teach a lot of things to us. Just yesterday evening, I read the book of Luke 12: 22-26 which told me not to worry on anything because worrying does not change anything. It told me not to worry about problems in life which is positive to my Emotional Quotient.

Yes, worrying does not improve anything in your life but Patience does. Last May, I was very worried not to be able to have the money to travel to Manila. On that very day when my sisters called me that I already have a ticket, Cirdia Foundation called me to tell me that I was a finalist to the RedPoint Awards National Thesis Competition in Architecture. They then told me that I had a free ticket to Manila and back to Davao. Then, last June 29, 2009, after a while day of deliberations, I was luckily awarded as one of the top 3 awardees for the RedPoint National Best Thesis in Architecture. Thanks to Cirdia Foundation, I was able to buy my laptop, buy my twin a laptop and pay my family payables that I was so worried about. Luke 12:25-26 taught me that it was not my worrying that made this happen, it was my patience so long ago when I made my thesis that made the work to the top.

I didn’t went back to Davao City after that because I was in love with Manila the very first instant I set foot on its grounds. I love the tall buildings and the fast pace of the city. In fact, I even made another blog entitled Philippines Home Ideas which features a lot of condominiums and houses to rent mostly in Metro Manila. I also included the Toilet private eye portion were I criticize and complement restrooms in malls.

It has been a while since I posted a personal blog. I think it's because of the pressure I have been through the past seven months of my absence. Graduation was in heat and i really needed a jobe to help support my thesis finances. Good thing I was hired at Rarejob Philippines where I taught English online. Then, I had to resign unfortunately because my health was beginning to compromise. I also had to focus on my thesis and my studies especially my Mst2 class in UP.

Fortunately, I was able to graduate last April. Now, I am back with a brighter future ahead. A friend once said that it is in distortion that a certain art is made beautiful. In saying this, it is assumed that distortion is meant and purposely done. But what if it is inevitable? What if the distortion is not meant because it is just the way the situation is for a lot of people.

Lately, I have been conducting Dance workshops for poor children in the neighboring towns in Davao City. In as much as I would be thrilled by the workshop’s impact on me, I have realized that my presence to these children was a greater impact to them.

I saw how they could have the “LINES” of a ballerina. The “Footwork” of a competing dance sport dancer and the “Deepness” of a popular choreographer. The only thing that would dismay them from being these good as I have mentioned is poverty.

It is a sad fact. Poverty has always been the boundary of most of Filipinos to go aboard different Arts Forms.

But Poverty is also the reason why a lot of artist becomes ingénues. The idea of trying something cheaper and being resourceful makes one artist different from the other.

My teacher in Science and Technology, Prof. Eufemio Rasco who wrote the book, “Unfolding Gene Revolution” would agree that the world has become flat. In one of his require book review last semester, we tackle on the book about the world being flat which enumerated various classifications on hoe it has become so. This includes the idea of the internet; off shoring and outsourcing.

It is then inevitable that jobs today have already been set on the internet. It started with the idea of the call center, which still requires the essence of the “work place”; a desk and a computer with carrels at the side.

But somehow, work has also evolved. In fact, many jobs are now home based today; from writing to teaching online and the likes to sophisticated jobs like editorial work and making animations and 3d operations.

Home based jobs usually are higher paying. An employer usually gets more than 10, 000 a month and a minimum of 6,000 a month. But you don't get that for passively, you work for it of course. Most importantly, home based jobs are skilled jobs which require you to be very good with your craft say writing for instance.

On the other hand, office employment most of the time are low paying but there are also high paying like call centers and those sophisticated firms. The advantage of this job is that you don't really get too burn out even if your in a "building" because your work end and starts at your desk.

Quality of Work

Usually, being employed at home is a little less sophisticated than working in a skyscraper. But if your the kind who goes to WIFI stations all day and just drink coffee, your as good as an executive.

The Quality of work is just similar in all aspect. They both entail enthusiasm for you to like what your doing.

Effort

Effort is the most important thing one should weigh when it comes to choosing for the right job. Home based jobs always require you 100% effort because of the proximity to clients that yo have to compensate. Being employed in a building makes one passive sometimes because one could always use their charm.

So which job is better? Actually, it is just up to the employee whether he/she wants to have a higher rank in her workplace. Home based or not, the real score is how well you fit to your position and how well his or her efforts are complimented.

Graduated but still incompetent: What should a fresh graduate Architecture student have before really “Graduating”?

I stumble upon this topic just awhile a go when my Architect friend sent me a message asking if I had a job already. I told him that I would love to have one but unfortunately I was still finishing my thesis. Then, I asked my friend who just graduated this year if she wanted to apply for the job. Unfortunately, she also had second thoughts because she thought she was incompetent.

Many fresh graduate students in all fields have the same problem as with my friend. They feel incompetent because they could not meet the standards of today especially on the fast change of technology. In the field of architecture, students should thus be able to meet the technologies and new software systems to be able to feel competent in their future jobs.

Here are some things an Architecture student should master before really graduating.

Autocad

Every architecture student should know even the basic of this, At this time, there is a latest edition of Autocad which is Autocad 2009 Architects Edition.

3D Max

This software is good for doing perspective and three dimensional areas.

VRay
Adobe Photoshop
Corel Draw

All of these softwares can be downloaded from the internet and can be bought in stores. Although it entails a lot of time for practice, it is important that a student values practice that being caught empty handed in the on the job trainings. It is also valuable to create a good first impression.

It is time to regain myself in blogging

After three months of suffering from misfortune on blogging, getting my blog banned and my hosting expired, I came to realize that I should regain myself in blogging.

All these e-commerce have been drowning my blogging enthusiasm since the time I was told that it exist. It has somehow paid alot of payments especially on my tuition fees and has also helped me survive for eight months without having to ask for money from my sisters.

But when I suddenly wanted more than 5000 a month income on blogging, I also started to get unfortunate with it. My very high hits blog was banned from the web and my other blog got expired.

Now, I think I am going to regain myself in blogging again. I'll try to blog about certain social issues happening in my country especially in Mindanao.

I'll try to inform the people that Mindanao is not MILF and WAR. In fact, it has alot of tourist spots and other cultural heritage that one would want to experience.

I will also try to blod about the filipinas and how they are portrayed badly online. Wiht my mother and other feminist advocate, I want to change how Filipinas are seen online. I want people to know that Filipinas are more that those things they see.

I want to welcome myself in this regain.
